Hallowen’s season is a good opportunity to discover the Hudson Valley. There are many sites to visit and creepy attractions for Halloween fun. This year, we bought tickets to see Chagall and Matisse stained-glass windows in a church and tickets to a haunted manor. Two different atmospheres…

Chagall and Matisse 😇

It is so unexpected to discover this little church in the Hudson Valley with Chagall and Matisse stained-glass windows.

For a 7 dollar ticket per person, we learned about the curious story of those windows. It happened thanks to the Rockefeller family. The Rose window by Matisse is his last work as the artist didn’t even get a chance to see the final piece of art before he dies.

The 9 other windows were made by Chagall and six of them represent old-testament prophets. My favorite one is Jeremiah’s window. The posture of Jeremiah reflect his state of mind. Remember that Jeremiah was called the weeping prophet and wrote the Book of Lamentations. He is so desperate that he sees the world upside-down: the blue of the sky is on the ground, the green of the grass in the sky and the sun is not bright any longer.

The story of the Good Samaritan painted on the main window was compelling too and full of symbols.

Horseman’s hollow 😨😱👻🧟‍♀️

Change of atmosphere… let’s dive into Halloween with the visit of the Philipsburg Manor haunted by the headless Horseman in the cursed town of Sleepy Hollow. This is a fun attraction to do with pre-teens to get scared surrounded by undeads, skulls, and creepy characters. Chills guaranteed. Beware: touching actors will be considered as an assault! so keep your hands in your pockets!
